A Quick Guide To Writing An 8th Grade Reflective Essay

A reflective essay is designed to present a moment in the author’s life and how they feel about it. It is when you will talk about how you felt during a certain point in your life. You can talk about how you felt when you won the spelling bee or when you won the big game. The idea is to look back at that moment and think about how you felt and then describe it to your audience. You will need to first set the scene and explain how you got to that point. Here is a guide to help you write the paper successfully.

  1. 1. Decide on the event
  2. You will start by deciding on an event or moment in your life that you will write your paper about. This could be a time when you were scared, happy, sad, etc. you want something that invoked an emotional response from you or even something that should have invoked an emotional response and didn’t.

  3. 2. Brainstorm ideas
  4. Next you will start to brainstorm some ideas on how you present the topic to your audience. Think about how what you know now may have changed how you handled the situation. For example, you can look back on the first day of school reflect on how you felt. Maybe you were nervous and you had no reason to be. You can reflect on how you handled your first argument with your girlfriend. Start writing down some ideas so that you can choose the one that works best for you.

  5. 3. Create an outline
  6. Make a plan as to how you will present the ideas to your audience. You want to give them a lot of details but it has to be organized in a way that makes the most sense. You will want to add some transitions that help you link the various paragraphs together so they start to create a picture in the reader’s mind of the situation and of how it has made you feel now thinking back on it. Take a look at how you could have handled a situation differently. The key is to know what order you will need to present the information in to get the greatest effect out of it. When you have a plan, it makes the rest of the process a lot easier.
